About Us

Our vineyard is located in San Joaquin County, California near the Sierra Foothills, in the Lodi Appellation (Jahant sub-appellation) near Lodi, CA.   This location, with it's red soils, and high quality water has proven to be exceptional for growing red wines, as is demonstrated in the numerous acres of red wine grapes in the Lodi Appellation. The cool westerly Delta breeze from the ocean through the Delta inlet makes the evenings cool but not cold, and allows the plants and soils to refresh themselves for another day of converting sunlight into wine.  The late maturing variety that we specialize in, Petit Verdot, is well suited to this region because of the number of heat units (see graph) required to produce quality premium grapes and wine.   We are humbled by God's abundance and are only stewards of the land, the vines, and the wine.

Our Vineyards

We are ever expanding our acreage as our budget allows but our passion is with the red blending, and superb wine grape, Petit Verdot.  Presently, that is our sole variety.  Our initial planting was established in the new millennium, 2000 and was set up on a lyre system with quadrilateral cordons on 36" arms (RIGIDARM) to separate the fruiting wires.  The fruiting wire stands about 42-44" off the ground.  The uprights are at a 15 degree angle from the upright position and are 42" tall.  We have an 8' x 5' spacing with 1,089 plants per acre.  We have clone 2 of Petit Verdot producing their 9th crop this year (2010).   With the high density of plants per acre with the cadillac of trellis systems,  the extremely high quality water used in nourishing the clusters, and the San Joaquin and Bruella soils, all bring these grapes to a very high quality beyond traditional methods of growing grapes.  These clone 2 scions are on top of 101-14 and 1103 rootstock.  Great wine is made in the vineyard, not in the wine cellar.

In 2006 we added more Petit Verdot acreage and have the newer clone 400 ready for harvest.  Again these scions are on 101-14 rootstock.  We were anticipating approximately 10 tons from these plants in 2008, but we received over 18 tons.  In 2009, we had over 36 tons of grapes that were crushed from our overall acreage of 6 acres.  That averages to 11+ lbs of grapes per plant and we like to keep the vines balanced with less than 12 lbs per plant.
